Cilantro

Basics

"Chinese Parsley" or Cilantro is the leafy greens of the Coriandrum Sativum, and my favorite herb. The seed of this herb Coriander is perhaps my favorite spice. Both the fruit (seed) and leaf of the plant can add tremendous flavor to any dish. Cilantro is used in several cultural dishes. The Seed has been used for centuries as medicine and as a seasoning. 3500 years ago it was documented as being used for indigestion and head aches.

Producers

This herb and spice is grown world wide from the USSR to the USA.

Aromatics and Flavors

Pepper and vinegar are the primary aromas from the herb. The Spice is much different, with a bit of citrus and peppercorn.

Culinary Uses

Cilantro is great in almost any application requiring herbs. Replace Parsley with Cilantro in your recipes. You will find it adds a pleasant flavor to tomato dishes. If there is any one herb that you may want to use or play with, try this one.
