Garlic

Basics

Another Item I could write a book on. From scaring away Vampires to curing the common cold, garlic has its history. We will go over the basics. Garlic is a member of the lily family, of which Onions, Chives, Shallots, and Leeks are members. One member of garlic I like is Elephant Garlic. These heads of garlic have cloves big enough to fit into a shot glass. The flavor is not as sharp as American Garlic but can be used for many applications. Garlic comes in many forms. Fresh Garlic is the way to go for almost any use. The flavors, essential oils, and aromatics provide extraordinary flavor to nearly any dish, sauce, soup, or salad. Other forms such as granulated garlic, garlic powder, and garlic salt have their uses, mostly in dry spice blends.

Aromatics and Flavors

I will tell you this, "you smell like garlic!". After consumption your breath smells of it, and your body permeates of it. The aroma and taste are much the same in garlic. The flavors vary when sauteed, roasted, or stewed.

Culinary Uses

Use in and on everything. Garlic is the one ingredient that can be found in every kitchen either dried, or fresh. I use about 15 pounds of it a day if not more.
