Marjoram

Basics

A close relative of mint, Marjoram has had its uses in cooking for thousands of years. The Greeks and Romans used Marjoram as a sign of respect and placed it on the graves of deceased friends and relatives.

Producers

Marjoram grows well in several different climates. Favoring the warmer climates, the primary producers of Marjoram are in the Mediterranean. Although Marjoram is grown and distributed fresh in the USA>

Aromatics and Flavors

A subtle sweet oregano flavor and aroma. Side by side the aroma is nearly the same. The flavor tastes similar but Oregano is more sharp.

Culinary Uses

Fresh Marjoram can be used in soups, sauces, and roasts such as Lamb. This is my favorite. Mix with other robust herbs such as rosemary and thyme. Marjoram is quite delicate, so it is recommended that it's use be toward the end of the cooking process to avoid dissipation of the aromatic essence.
